Hi there!
My name is Crystal Charee. I use AI to help generate certain sections of this site like blog and page descriptions and other tedious things that I don't like messing with. I also use AI to help me refine structure, since that is a weak point for me. I also use AI as an editor since human interaction is painful and I have found that Chat GPT specifically is really good at pinpointing where I feel insecure about a piece of writing. I generally agree and am even impressed with the suggestions it offers to fix what I'm working on, as well.
I don't use AI to generate story ideas out of nowhere and then post them here unedited. You could just do that for yourself. I use AI to help me refine and structure character arcs, story ideas, and even prose for stories that I've been working on in my head for up to decades. I've wanted to be a writer since I was five and that has not happened organically. I tend to be better at editing existing work than creating my own, so in September of 2025, I asked ChatGPT to write a novel for me, with the purpose of taking whatever weird monster it provided and turning it into a readable novel.
What I found was that ChatGPT is great at generating ideas, problem-solving existing writing, and offering structure such as outlines, but not so great at following through with full, novel-length stories. It has a terrible memory, so halfway through generating a novel, it just gets tired and forgets what it's doing. Even short stories and chapters generated by Chat GPT tend to be a little stark. Lots of fun colors, but not a lot of depth.
So, I am using this blog as a way to keep track of all of the story ideas that I want to work on (with the help of AI), but I know that I have more ideas than stories I'll ever actually write, so I wanted to make these ideas public in case anyone stumbles across this blog and is inspired by something on here.
Regarding the ethics of using AI, oppression is built into every tool writers use from paper and pencils through cellphones and computers. The only ethical way to write would be to mine my own stone tablets and chisel them with hand-hewn tools. That doesn't mean that I'm super okay with the human and environmental impacts of AI, it just means that like with food, clothing, and shelter, my needs come before my concern over the exploitation of other people.
Many could (and do) argue that AI is an optional tool, but they don't take mental health into account. For me, personally, I am almost half-a-century old, and my mental health is declining along with my physical health. I am currently unemployed, having lost my last job to a prolonged bout of agoraphobia and depression. My "net worth" is currently $60, I am over a decade-and-a-half away from retirement, and I'm desperate enough to use whatever tools are available to me.
I could accuse people who would call me lazy for using AI as being ableist, but I think it's more that they are fighting the inevitable. Like any tool, AI has its dangers and like anything built under capitalism, exploitation is a factor, but guess what? AI isn't going anywhere because decent people have concerns. The evil people who "created" it are already benefiting from it and have been for much longer than we have.
So, feel free to use the resources here, or not, based on your comfort level with its proximity to AI. I don't want anyone using the resources I'm providing without understanding that the human creating these resources uses AI as a tool. Have a great day!
(Note: I did not use AI to help me write this disclaimer, although I probably should have.)
